Comedy Standing Up

My ten minute "clean" set at the Comedy Gallery...

Believe it or not, the Selective Service System gave John his first comedy gig right out of college. Caught in the draft, PFC Kunik killed ‘em for two years in the frozen North, performing his written sketches and improvs for Uncle Sam in Alaska as an Entertainment Specialist. Apparently, a loaded weapon was out of the question. After thawing out in sunny, tropical Minnesota, he acted, directed, appeared in commercials, and spent five years accosting and amusing audiences as Tony Nunzio, Sr. in the long-running interactive comedy “Tony ‘n Tina’s Wedding,” as well as six months as the irritable Rudy in “We Gotta Bingo!” A featured guest performer at the 2009 North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival, the 2006 Kansas City Comedy Arts Festival, and a finalist in the Twin Cities Laff-Off, he has been performing throughout the Midwest since the turn-of-the-century, including Giggles Comedy Pub in Milwaukee, Keys ‘n Laffs in Indianapolis, and as a regular at the Minnesota Comedy Club, the Comedy Galleries, and the recently opened This Place is a Joke in St. Paul. Kunik holds a graduate degree in theatre and has finally grasped its total irrelevance to reality. And even though he’s been around long enough to know better, he never fails to take it on the chin when life throws him a curve. //BoomerTimes Editor
